China’s Foreign Trade Imports and Exports are growing for 9 consecutive months

According to customs data, in the first two months of this year, the total value of my country’s foreign trade imports and exports was 5.44 trillion yuan. An increase of 32.2% over the same period last year. Among them, exports were 3.06 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 50.1%; imports were 2.38 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 14.5%.

Li Kuiwen, Director of the Statistics and Analysis Department of the General Administration of Customs: my country’s foreign trade has continued the momentum of continuous improvement in imports and exports since June last year, and achieved positive growth for nine consecutive months.

Li Kuiwen said that my country’s foreign trade has achieved a good start due to three factors. First, the production and consumption prosperity of major economies such as Europe and the United States has rebounded, and the increase in external demand has driven my country’s export growth. In the first two months, my country’s exports to Europe, the United States and Japan increased by 59.2%, which was higher than the overall increase in exports. In addition, the domestic economy continued to recover steadily, driving rapid growth in imports. At the same time, due to the impact of the new crown epidemic, imports and exports fell by 9.7% year-on-year in the first two months of last year. The low base is also one of the reasons for the larger increase this year.

From the perspective of trading partners, in the first two months, my country’s imports and exports to ASEAN, the EU, the United States, and Japan were 786.2 billion, 779.04 billion, 716.37 billion, and 349.23 billion, respectively, representing a year-on-year increase of 32.9%, 39.8%, 69.6%, and 27.4%. In the same period, my country’s imports and exports with countries along the “Belt and Road” totaled 1.62 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 23.9%.

Li Kuiwen, Director of the Statistics and Analysis Department of the General Administration of Customs: my country continues to open up to the outside world and the layout of the international market continues to be optimized. In particular, the continuous deepening of economic and trade cooperation with countries along the “Belt and Road” has expanded my country’s foreign trade development space and continued to improve my country’s foreign trade. Play an important supporting role.
