SCH40 SMLS 5.8M API 5L A106 Grade B

The steel pipe processed today, material SCH40 SMLS 5.8M API 5L A106 Grade B, is about to be inspected by a third party sent by the customer. What are the aspects of this seamless steel pipe inspection?
For seamless steel pipes (SMLS) made of API 5L A106 Grade B, with a length of 5.8 meters, and about to be inspected by a third party, the following inspections are usually required:

1. Appearance inspection
Surface defects: Check whether there are cracks, dents, bubbles, peeling and other defects on the surface of the steel pipe.
End surface quality: Whether the two ends of the steel pipe are flat, whether there are burrs, and whether the port is compliant.
2. Dimension inspection
Wall thickness: Use a thickness gauge to detect the wall thickness of the steel pipe to ensure that it meets the SCH40 wall thickness specifications required by the standard.
Outer diameter: Use a caliper or other suitable tool to measure the outer diameter of the steel pipe to ensure that it meets the design specifications.
Length: Check whether the actual length of the steel pipe meets the standard requirement of 5.8 meters.
Ovality: Check the roundness deviation of the steel pipe to ensure that it meets the standard.
3. Mechanical property test
Tensile test: Check the tensile strength and yield strength of the steel pipe to ensure that it meets the requirements of A106 Grade B.
Impact test: Impact toughness test can be performed as needed (especially when used in low temperature environment).
Hardness test: Surface hardness test is performed by hardness tester to ensure that the hardness meets the requirements.
4. Chemical composition analysis
Chemical composition analysis of steel pipe is performed to check whether its composition meets the requirements of API 5L and A106 Grade B, such as the content of carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur and other elements.
5. Nondestructive testing (NDT)
Ultrasonic testing (UT): Check whether there are cracks, inclusions and other defects inside the steel pipe.
Magnetic particle testing (MT): Used to detect surface or near-surface cracks and other defects.
Radiographic testing (RT): According to specific requirements, radiographic testing can be performed to check internal defects.
Eddy current testing (ET): Non-destructive detection of surface defects, especially fine cracks and holes.
6. Hydraulic test
Hydraulic test the steel pipe to test its pressure bearing capacity and sealing to verify whether there is leakage or structural defects.
7. Marking and certification
Check whether the marking of the steel pipe is clear and correct (including specifications, materials, standards, etc.).
Check whether the material certificate and inspection report are complete to ensure that the documents are consistent with the actual product.
8. Bending/flattening test
The steel pipe may need to be bent or flattened to check its plasticity and deformation resistance.
The third-party inspection agency sent by the customer will conduct random inspections or full inspections on the above items to ensure that the seamless steel pipe meets the requirements of the contract and standards.
