Process requirements
Manufacturing process: seamless or welded (but Gr.6 usually requires seamless)
Heat treatment: normalizing or normalizing and tempering
Non-destructive testing: 100% ultrasonic or eddy current testing
Hydraulic pressure test: usually 1.5 times the working pressure
Material classification
ASTM A333/A333M contains multiple material grades, and the chemical composition of each grade is different:
1. Gr.1
Carbon (C): ≤0.30%
Manganese (Mn): 0.40-1.06%
Phosphorus (P): ≤0.025%
Sulfur (S): ≤0.025%
Silicon (Si): ≥0.10%
2. Gr.3
Nickel (Ni) content is about 3.5%, with better low temperature toughness
3. Gr.6
Carbon (C): ≤0.30%
Manganese (Mn): 0.29-1.06%
Phosphorus (P): ≤0.025%
Sulfur (S): ≤0.025%
Silicon (Si): ≥0.10%
4. Gr.8
Austenitic stainless steel material, usually 304 or 304L
5. Gr.9
Nickel (Ni) content is about 1.5%, between Gr.3 and Gr.6
6. Gr.10
Low alloy steel containing molybdenum (Mo) to improve corrosion resistance

Additional explanation
1. Gr.6 is the most widely used grade, especially suitable for low temperature environments such as LNG (-162℃)
2. The selection of different grades depends on the design temperature, medium characteristics and cost considerations
3. All grades of steel pipes are subject to low temperature impact tests to verify their toughness
4. For welded steel pipes, appropriate heat treatment is required after welding to restore material properties
5. When purchasing, the appropriate material grade should be selected according to the specific application environment, and the material certificate and test report should be strictly verified.
